Cost

Early Registration – $20

• Register by Thursday, November 12th.
• Full access to all events.
• Welcome packet with reeds and other swag.

Full Day at-the-door Registration  – $25

• Register at the door (after Thursday, November 12th).
• Full access to all events.

Discount per sibling – $5 off

• Parents registering more than 1 child will receive $5 off per additional child. Example: 1 child $25 (full day at-the-door registration), 2 children $45 total, 3 children $65 total.

Fee waivers availble for qualifying students (see below).

Registration fee waivers are available

When you register, a fee waiver can be granted to any participant who selects “yes” that identifies with one of the following:

• You are enrolled in or eligible to participate in the US National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
• You are enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., Federal TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).
• Your family receives public assistance.
• You live in federally subsidized public housing or a foster home, or are homeless.
• You are a ward of the state or an orphan.

About

University of Arizona Reed Day is an educational event for oboists, clarinetists, saxophonists, and bassoonists of all ages and abilities. There will be workshops, clinics, ensembles, concerts, and vendors with equipment to try and purchase. This event is hosted by Dr. Sara Fraker, Dr. Jackie Glazier, Dr. Eddie Goodman, Dr. Marissa Olegario, and the UA oboe, clarinet, saxophone, and bassoon studios.

Competition

We’re excited to announce the 1st Annual

Womble/Williams Woodwind Competition

Young musicians in grades 6-12 are welcome to apply! Players of ALL experience levels are encouraged to participate, and prizes will be awarded in several categories.

Each winner will receive a $200 cash prize, a future solo performance opportunity at the UA School of Music, and free UA Reed Day registration for next year.

The W/W Woodwind Competition will be held during UA Reed Day! Please prepare a solo of your choice, 5 minutes or less. Examples of audition repertoire include: an etude, solo contest piece, sonata movement, concerto movement, improvisation, or original composition. Auditions will be performed without piano accompaniment, even if a piano score is available. 

The competition will be held at 1:00pm in Holsclaw Hall, and results will be annoucned at the Cake Reception at the end of UA Reed Day.

About our competition sponsor and honorary adjudicator:

Robert Williams, a native of Tucson, was Principal Bassoonist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from 1974 to 2020. He was formerly solo bassoonist with the Winnipeg Symphony, Winnipeg CBC Orchestra, Colorado Philharmonic and Tucson Symphony. Bob attended Catalina High School and graduated with honors from the University of Arizona. He studied briefly at the University of Southern California before going on to win the principal bassoon position of the Winnipeg Symphony. With his wife Treva, retired DSO oboist/English hornist, Bob founded Womble/Williams Double Reeds, experts in the field of double reed instruments, tools, and cane.
